About Calya Denson

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Calya Denson. I am Caribbean - African American from Tallahassee, Florida. I recently moved to Gainesville, Florida to invest in my education at the University of Florida, I anticipate graduating in 2025. My major is Health Science on the Pre-PA (Physician Assistant) track stimulating my future career goal of being a Dermatology Physician Assistant. Also, pursuing a minor in Disability of society where I’ve gained deep compassion and introspection about the disabled community. I’ve absorbed so much information about what people with disabilities face such as ableism, inspiration porn, intersectionality, and inaccessibility within society, and how it excludes the disability community from being a part of society. It has altered the way I think especially about those with disabilities it has shaped me into a better person by giving me knowledge, compassion, empathy, communication skills, awareness, and a unique perspective. As a disability advocate, I’ve recently been allowed to be a Disability Ambassador. I am excited to grow and invest back in a community I'm deeply passionate about. In this leadership role, I will be able to contribute my ideas, and skills while sharing my values to make changes in today's society for it to be a better and safer place for everyone.
