About Calyn Ostrowski

As the Associate Director of Strategic Partnerships and Development at UW–Madison's Global Health Institute (GHI), I create cross-sector collaborations that drive research, education, and outreach at the intersection of human, animal, and environmental health. I oversee GHI's administration, communications, board and advisory committees, advancement, and a diverse portfolio of academic, philanthropic, government, and industry partnerships. In addition, I serve on UW-Madison’s International Division Academic Planning Council and work with campus partners to break down silos and create new pathways for cannabis research and development. From 2013–2019, I worked with financial cooperatives across the globe. I served as Executive Director of the Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions (WFCU) from 2013–2018, where I led fundraising, strategic planning, board engagement, communications, and outreach initiatives to support underserved communities in emerging markets. I also directed the Global Women’s Leadership Network, a professional network of members across 75 countries, and launched development programs to advance women’s leadership in the credit union sector. In 2018–2019, I held the role of Managing Vice President at Summit Credit Union. In 2008–2012, I managed the Woodrow Wilson Center's Global Health Initiative, serving as an issue expert and facilitating dialogue forums with domestic and international donors, policymakers, media, NGOs, and academic institutions to strengthen global health programs and policies in the U.S. and internationally. I currently serve as a Board Member at Edgewood Campus School. Previously, I have held board positions with the Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (2013–2017), UW-Madison School of Law Economic Justice Institute (2018–2020), and Badgerland Girl Scouts (2018–2019). I have a master’s degree (2007) in nonprofit management from Case Western Reserve University and a bachelor’s degree (2004) in political science and psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where I dove on the Women’s Swim & Dive team.
