About Cameron Overton

As the Director of Operations and Administration at Ubuntu Research and Evaluation, my role intertwines with the principles of liberation, ensuring Black dignity in our future endeavors. Every day, I orchestrate the operational heartbeat of our organization, ensuring that every process and decision aligns with our commitment to liberation and Afro-futuristic evaluation methods. I oversee the logistics that enable our teams to conduct research and evaluation that uplifts marginalized communities and emboldens others to ensure that Black dignity is the future. From budget management to strategic planning, my goal is to create pathways that lead to a future where everyone experiences true equity as our future liberation is interconnected. I also serve as an Executive Pastor at Zao MKE Church, a Jesus-rooted, justice-centered, and radically inclusive community that strives to create a safe and welcoming space for all people and work toward justice through community mutual aid and healing. In my previous roles as an Assistant Professor, program director, and chair at Alverno College, I taught courses on clinical social work, social work toward abolition, and the effects of the war on drugs in drug treatment and the family, and conducted research on social justice and diversity issues. As a Drug Treatment Court Coordinator at Milwaukee County, I managed a team of professionals who provided comprehensive services to individuals with substance use disorders and criminal justice involvement. I hold a Doctor of Social Work degree from the University of St. Thomas, a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and multiple certifications and licenses in clinical social work and substance abuse counseling. I am committed to advancing the work of liberation by fostering a beloved community where all are free.
