Background

About Cameron Sheldon

Cameron is a General Attorney at the Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection. The views and opinions provided herein are her own and do not necessarily represent the views of U.S. Customs and Border Protection or of the United States. Formerly, Cameron served as Legal Director of the West African Community Council (WACC) where she offered free or low-cost legal representation in immigration matters, including family-based petitions and removal defense. Cameron is originally from Canton, Connecticut. After graduating from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, she received a Fulbright Fellowship to teach political science to English speakers at the Russian Armenian University in Yerevan, Armenia. Upon the completion of her fellowship, she worked for two years assisting children detained by immigration authorities in South Texas. Cameron graduated from the University of California, Irvine School of Law in May 2019. In law school, she developed a passion for working at the intersection of criminal, immigration, and civil rights law through her work with the Worker and Immigrant Rights Advocacy Clinic at Yale Law School, the Immigrant Rights Clinic at UCI, and the American Civil Liberties Union. Her strong work ethic and diligence allowed her to excel at UCI Law where she was elected to serve on the Executive Board of the UC Irvine Law Review and received numerous awards for receiving the highest and second-highest grades in her courses. In August of 2019, Cameron began a two-year clerkship for Chief Judge Bradley Maxa on the Washington Court of Appeals, Division II in Tacoma, Washington. In her clerkship with the Court of Appeals, she enjoyed working closely with Judge Maxa, gaining broad exposure to various areas of the law, and improving skills that are useful to her in performing her work as an advocate. After concluding her two-year clerkship with Judge Maxa, Cameron joined Ahlers Cressman and Sleight PLLC in Seattle as an Associate Attorney where her practice focused on complex civil litigation and construction disputes between owners, contractors, and other industry stakeholders.
