About Cameron Thomas

While in law school, I developed excellent legal writing and research skills. In my legal writing and research class, I learned to conduct research on complex legal issues and wrote multi-page memos and briefs surrounding different legal claims. I had the pleasure of working in conjunction with classmates to prepare case briefs and memo logs to support legal research. Throughout the year, I researched and explored a claim for the intentional infliction of emotional distress analyzed through a multi-factor legal test; termination of spousal maintenance established by the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution Act examined through a three-element test; and a writ of habeas corpus under 28 USCS § 2254 (d). Additionally, I have drafted a series of trial briefs and appellate briefs regarding a Fourth Amendment dog sniff search in school. Throughout my second year at Chicago-Kent, I had the pleasure of serving the student body as one of the 2L Representatives for the Student Bar Association; Academic Chair for the Black Law Students Association; and I served as a member of the Nationally Ranked Trial Advocacy Team. Along with participating in a national competition, the trial advocacy team gave me the chance to take specialized courses in intensive trial advocacy and trial evidence, which have enabled me to present opening and closing arguments, conduct direct and cross examinations of witnesses, and participate in several complete mock trial competitions. Additionally, I was selected as Best Advocate for Rounds 4 and 5 of the National Trial League Competition and advanced to the quarterfinals during the Queens County District Attorney’s Office Trial Advocacy Competition.Prior to entering law school, I attended Morehouse College, where I majored in Political Science. I had the privilege of being honored as one of six political science majors initiated into Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society in May of 2021. My undergraduate coursework and political science experience allowed me to produce academic research analyzing the political participation of members within the LGBTQIA+ community to understand voting trends, outcomes, community mobilization, and party ideology. As a top-ranking scholar, I was able to leverage my skills to delve into the realms of sociology, communications, and exploratory journalism where I studied topics like professional communications, moot court, public speaking, criminology, and drone journalism.
