About Camila Bert

Chilean-American writer and actor. She holds a BFA in acting from the University of Chile and an MFA in playwriting from Columbia University and is the Artistic Director of Teatro del Carmen theatre company and the Lápiz de Mina women's playwriting foundation and festival. She was awarded the Presidente de la República scholarship for her graduate studies and has participated in several national and international workshops with The Royal Court, New York Theatre Workshop, Panorama Sur, Movimiento Sur, and others. Teatro del Carmen has produced most of her plays including CHAN!(Teatro del Puente, GAM), Latino (directed by: Los Contadores Auditores), The Baby y My Three Sisters (Playwriting Award and Best Actor, Festival 8 de Nuevos Directores), along with her translation of Caryl Churchill's Far Away. Other plays of hers include: Chicos Tóxicos (Fitam 2005), Betamax (Playwriting Award, Festival Víctor Jara 2005), Flying Dishes, Polis and Trío (Teatro del Puente). She has performed in several plays including La Vida Terrestre de Nebraska by Bruce Gibbons, Safari para Divorciadas by Los Contadores Auditores and Yo Nunca Nunca by Begoña Ugalde. In film, she starred in the feature film You think you're the prettiest.(but you're the sluttiest) by Che Sandoval and Paulo Orrego's Caleidoscopio. She has taught "Playwriting","Screenwriting"," Audiovisual Language" and "Text and Space" courses at the University of Chile, DuocUC and Arcos Institute.
