About Camille Callison

I am a member of the Tsesk'ya clan of the Tahltan Nation and the University Librarian at the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV). As a passionate cultural activist, I am pursuing a PhD in Anthropology at the University of Manitoba where my research critically examines the relationship between cultural memory institutions and the continued survival and activation of Indigenous knowledges, languages, and cultures. Current professional contributions include: Chair of the National Indigenous Knowledge and Language Alliance (NIKLA-ANCLA) and co-Lead of the Respectful Terminology Platform Project (RTPP); member of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) Indigenous Matters Section, North American Regional Division, & the Advisory Committee on Cultural Heritage, and P2890™ Recommended Practice for Provenance of Indigenous Peoples’ Data. I serve on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) Board of Directors, BC ELN Steering Committee, Arca Advisory Committee, the Council of Pacific & Prairie University Libraries (COPPUL), and the Council of Postsecondary Library Directors of BC (CPSLD) as Secretary/President-Elect. Past service includes: NISO Diversity, Equity, Inclusive & Accessibility (DEIA) Committee (2021-2023) and Standards Sub-committee co-chair (2022-23); Chair of Indigenous Matters Section (2019-2021); National Film Board of Canada Indigenous Advisory Group (2017 to 2021); Vice-Chair of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO Memory of the World Committee (2017-2019) responsible for founding Canada’s national Memory of the World program; Manitoba Library Association President (2013-2015); founding and ensuing boards of the Canadian Federation of Library Associations (CFLA-FCAB)(2015-2019) as the Indigenous Representative to the Board and as Vice-Chair of the Board (2018-2019). I chaired the CFLA-FCAB Truth and Reconciliation Committee which produced a widely endorsed report & recommendation on Indigenous peoples and libraries, archives, and cultural memory institutions in February 2017 then was the founding Chair of the Indigenous Matters Committee (2017-2019) and as Past Chair (2019-2020) and co-chairing working groups on Indigenous Knowledge Protection/Copyright, Indigenous Curriculum, and Joint Working Group on Classification and Subject Headings; and a member of the CFLA-FCAB Copyright Committee (2017-2020) that co-authored the CFLA-FCAB Indigenous Knowledge Position Statement.
