About Canan Marasligil

Canan Marasligil (Ja’anan Marashligil)(she/they) is a writer, literary translator and artist. Canan advocates for representation, equality and diversity. She works in English, French, Dutch and Turkish, and has a fair command of Spanish. A multidisciplinary approach is central to how they work, with their practices feeding one another to create spaces where we can collectively engage with art, culture, literature and ignite change through creativity. Throughout her work, Canan tries to find connection points between- individual contribution – which requires time alone to work, research, think and reflect, to create before we can share anything with the world- and collective action, which requires spaces where the individuals can safely express themselves, share their work that will then connect within this collective. Throughout the years, Canan has worked within the cultural and literary scenes in countries such as Belgium, the Netherlands, UK, France, and Turkey, including partnerships in Algeria, Morocco, Germany and more, as well as on different levels from the collective and independent scenes to institutional and governmental organisations. Since 1 December 2023, Canan has taken on employment as an advisor for het Cultuurfonds (4 days a week) and is now focusing her freelance work solely on her own artistic and literary practice, including public speaking and events mainly within her international communities and networks.
