About Canard Barnes

I began charting the daily prices of oil and gas on my bedroom wall at the age of 8. I later discovered this natural data-driven curiosity and in-depth understanding of financial markets could be used to serve others. The result has been a community of clients—individuals, family offices, businesses, and nonprofits—that have worked with me for more than 20 years. I founded Barnes & Company Investment Counsel in 2011 and lead the business as Managing Principal. We serve the financial needs of clients while also simplifying the complexities of wealth management that keeps them from what matters most. The first component in our integrated approach is partnership with our clients. Only when we understand their perspectives and objectives can we create tailored solutions helping them with their family, business, and charitable intent. Analytics is the other important part of our methodology. I personally follow a select group of economists, strategists, and thought leaders to expand my market understanding and securities insights. As fiduciaries putting the unique needs of each client first, we speak with our clients regularly, review results quarterly, and meet face-to-face annually. In addition, we collaborate with our clients’ CPAs, attorneys, and other advisors. Philanthropy is a thread woven through my career. From some of my earliest work in co-founding Access Wall Street—a nonprofit program of El Nido Family Centers that provided underserved youth of color exposure to Wall Street—to my work at Merrill Lynch as a Community Relationship Management Administrator and my numerous nonprofit board seats including the California Association of Nonprofits and the Center for Nonprofit Management-Southern California, philanthropy is a cornerstone of who I am personally and professionally. Over the course of my career, I have advised, managed client relationships, or served on the board of countless national and regional nonprofit organizations. When I am not working with clients, you can find me spending time with my family or passionately engaged in one of my favorite hobbies—restoring classic cars.
