My daily regime is working with terminally ill or dying patients to help ensure their comfort and quality of their remaining days. As many of my fellow nurses that take a special interest in Hospice it takes a special person, who understands the true joy of being in ones life as a support system. Skills that I posses, Critical-Thinking Skills: Assessing a patient's situation, as well as detect changes in symptoms, health or pain, and will need to know when action is necessary. Compassion: Being sympathetic to a patient's needs, and be able to deal with people in various states of pain, trauma and tragedy. Attention to Detail: As a Hospice nurses I can help doctors administer medications, monitor vital signs and subtle changes in a patient's health. Attention to detail is key. Organizational Skills: As a Hospice nurse I am faced with patients with differing needs, stages of health and risks. Being organized and knowing how to prioritize helps the process of death and dying. Calm Under Pressure: Staying calm under pressure with emerging situations. Patience: Giving care under stressful circumstances requires patience. Communication Skills: Establishing a trusting close relationship with patients who are scared, in pain or still coming to terms with their death. Families will have questions, As a patient l istener and good communicator I help keep everyone calm and help them understand the situation."Nursing is more than a title.
