Background
About Candace Hyatt
My career with the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) gave me more than I could have planned for. I estabished myself as an expert anlayst and assisted management with organization structures, classification allocations, and the complete civil service hiring process. The experience obtained at DPR not only gave me an incredible background and knowledge base, it also sparked an interest in and appreciation for the civil service administrative functions and project management. After two years at DPR, I went to the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) to gain experience with a large agency and learn the employee discipline and corrective action field. While at CalPERS, I mastered the progressive discipline steps, setting office policies and expectations, and drafting and serving corrective actions in accordance the necessary policies and procedures established by the California State Personnel Board (SPB). My time at CalPERS not only afforded me the opportunity to learn progressive discipline, but also instilled employer principles that are essential to developing and maintaining a productive workforce. Currently, I am at the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), Division of Labor Relations. While I continue to assist management with the initial steps of the progressive discipline process, my essential functions are to review labor grievances, work on the front line with labor organizations and unions to resolve labor disputes and concerns, and provide input to labor practices. So far, this position is proving to be challenging and ever changing. My experience thus far continues to benefit my decision making abilities as it is well rounded. I would like to establish myself in a position of leadership as my personal abilities to be open-minded, thoughtful, well organized, and self-motivated continually drive me. Specialties: Civil Service Classification and Compensation, Employee Discipline and Adverse Actions, and Labor Grievances
