About Candace Watson

In 1991 I graduated from Henry Wise Wood Highschool as the Valedictorian. I then graduated from my Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Calgary in 1996 with the highest marks in the faculty and received the Gold Medal award for academic achievement. Since then, I have gone on to have over 21 years of nursing experience in a variety of fields including high risk labor and delivery, emergency room, adult psychiatry, telehealth and the sexual assault response team. I am known to work collaboratively with my colleagues, patients and their families while providing a high standard of care for my clients. During my time in the emergency department at Rockyview I was also given the opportunity to work on the Regional Emergency Department Computer Tracking system and ended up having a job with the project as a Computer System Coordinator to support all the emergency departments in Calgary. I have since gone on to obtain my MBA at the University of Calgary graduating in 2018 where I achieved a high academic standing and was on the Dean's list at graduation. After graduation I went on the to secure my first business related job at the Canadian Mental Health Association Calgary Region where I still work as a Financial Assistant. I have gained experience with budgeting, donation management, donor relations, problem solving and have worked to improve financial reporting through the development of a spreadsheet detailing different classification of donations which I shared with the finance and fund development teams. In addition to my other awards I have also had the honor of receiving The Governor General of Canada Caring Canadian Award (Sovereign Medal), Nadine Sterling Memorial Award and the Vince Van De Pol Award. These awards came while sitting on the Board of Directors for 9 years for the Canadian Mental Health Association Calgary Region where I worked very hard to decrease the stigma of mental illness for those who struggle. I am a very detailed person with a strong work ethic and complete work to a very high standard. I am also a kind person that always cared very deeply for my patients and would go to great lengths to advocate for the highest level of care for them. I work at CMHA as I value the organization's work to improve the lives of those who struggle with mental illness and their families.
