About Candi Harris

Over the past ten years, I have worked on a variety of pilot projects for several different university offices. While the role may change, my commitment to developing quality programs to serve students remains the same. Regarding student success, I believe that all students have potential and that educational institutions have a responsibility to help students discover and realize that potential. Over the last five years, I’ve specialized in programs targeted at low-income, first-generation, and other student groups commonly underrepresented. In academic and student affairs spaces, I enjoy developing data-driven programs that incorporate best practice strategies for promoting student success. My knack for building start-up programs has been valuable especially when resources are low. For example, I am currently invested in a living learning community program for incoming African-American in which we employ "intrusive advising" strategies. Under tight budget constraints, I've built partnerships across campus to secure additional funding. I attribute much of my success to the skill set I continuously aim to improve. These skills include networking across campus and community lines to pool resources for insufficiently funded programs, collaborating with others to improve and enhance access to services, and adapting my communication style to appeal to a diverse audience. I have successfully written several funding proposals and believe I have a great foundation for building out this skill am pursuing a Teaching Technical Communication Academic Certificate to continue to build on my writing skills. Towards this end, I am willing to explore opportunities to help others with grant or report writing projects. I am also open to opportunities to help others build academic success programs from the ground
