About Candice Bogdanski

Experienced Historian (Art/Architecture) with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education and heritage industries. Currently, I am the Senior Heritage Planner for the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. I am a Faculty member at Willowbank School of Restoration Arts, located in Queenston, Ontario. I have assisted with course development for their new curriculum, and taught three courses during the 2024/2025 academic year. As a Historian with Historical Services (Parks Canada Agency, Indigenous Affairs & Cultural Heritage, Federal Government of Canada), I gained civic experience with public histories and Federal historical research as it relates to evaluating the cultural heritage of vernacular architecture and the built environment. As a municipal heritage planner for the Town of Caledon, I obtained a practical knowledge of municipal and regional planning policy, as well as the approvals process for planning and zoning applications with on-site cultural and natural heritage components. I have carried these civic heritage skills and expertise forward in my current role. In 2022, I joined ERA Achitects Inc. as a heritage planner, and at the beginning of 2023, I was promoted to the role of Heritage Planner/Project Manager with the firm. I have in-depth knowledge of the Ontario Heritage Act, Provincial planning policies, and municipal heritage planning. I am an advanced researcher with professional writing skills suitable for technical report writing, and the critical evaluation of cultural heritage value in built, landscape, contextual, and intangible forms. Professional (full-rank) member of the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals. Skilled in Researching, Lecturing, Academic Writing, Architectural History, Art History, Editing, and Critical Thinking. Experienced in writing Cultural Heritage Evaluation Reports (CHERs), Heritage Impact Assessments (HIAs), Cultural Landscape Studies, Cultural Heritage Approaches, and other required reports for municipal planning applications related to the Ontario Heritage Act. Master’s degree in Art History from the University of Toronto and Fellow of the Society of Antiquarians of Scotland. Eleven years as a contract-based University Instructor with ten original undergraduate courses in Art History, Visual Culture, and Medieval Studies. Strong research professional with a forthcoming Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) focused in Art History from York University (Defence planned Spring). Doctoral degree near completion; scholarly contributions to several academic conferences as well as publications.
