I am the Director of Advocacy Initiatives, at Texas CASA, the state membership organization responsible for the training and support of the 74 local CASA programs. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) act as guardian ad litems for children and youth while they are in the foster care systemI develop, implement and oversee statewide initiatives and programs including Collaborative Family Engagement (CFE), and CASA ACT (Anti-Child Trafficking), that work to improve the foster care system, and outcomes for children, their parents and families.The goal is CFE is to ensure that every young person involved in child welfare has positive, supportive life-long adult connections, and parents and families have natural supports instead of professional supports long-term.I carry forward in my work the belief that every person has the foundational human right to know and belong to their family, community and culture; and that connection is a basic human need.
