About Candice T.

Candice is a cultural memory worker, digital humanist, interdisciplinary researcher, and educator. They earned their B.A. in Art History from Spelman College and their M.A. in English from Texas Southern University. Candice is currently entering their fifth year as a Humanities doctoral student at Clark Atlanta University, and their dissertation explores the West African and African American spiritual technologies encoded throughout Octavia E. Butler’s oeuvre. Candice's publications include an essay entitled “GodIsLove: Signified Sankofarrations in The Joys of Motherhood and Freshwater” in Yemoja's Tears Anthology (Journal of the Fantastic in the Arts); a chapter entitled “For the Culture: Pathways in Linguistics for Black and HBCU Scholars” (Oxford Press); and “Myth and Memory in Twelve Years a Slave, Kindred, Beloved, and The Good Lord Bird” in Racial Discourse in American Literature: A Collection of Essays” (Edwin Mellen Press).
