About Candy Alexander
All my formal work experience and volunteer work has involved helping children. I have taught in public and private schools, worked in camps & VBS, led workshops, led Boy Scout dens & Sequoya District Boy Scouts, foster parent for 8 years, Council on Child Abuse intervention volunteer, Volunteer of the Year for United Way, and other tasks. I have been making baskets for over 20 years. My forte' is designing functional reed baskets. I have taught at guild meetings, workshops, and conventions across the southeast. My work was featured in Basket Bits magazine. I have served on the board of the Tennessee Basketry Association and chaired the Tennessee Basketry Convention twice. In retirement I find myself tutoring children, doing volunteer work with homeless/in need families, and continuing with my basket business. I also get to spend more time making jewelry and learning new skills.
