About Candy Matterson

I am a creative, problem solver in materials who is most happy in the midst of the creative process, which I confess I crave. I especially love traditional metal craftsmanship. After my BA honours in Silversmithing and Metalwork at Camberwell I became a secondary school technology teacher which I was for over 30 years.Returning to education for myself to do an MA at UCA Farnham in 2016 was a joyful and exciting process, a real privilege. I spent 2018 after the MA at UCA as artist in residence which gave me time to continue with larger metalwork projects. Teaching generally is a part of who I am, a sort of default setting. I learn something new and immediately want to share it. I especially enjoy the challenge of realising an original idea or concept. I currently teach jewellery and silver for Surrey Adult Education. In addition I have been a visiting tutor at UCA Farnham for the MA course. I currently work from my home studio ‘The Shed’. I have exhibited work in a number of places in the Uk and was selected to take part in 4th ‘Triple Parade’ Biennale for Contemporary Jewellery in Shanghai.I am a member of The Association of Contemporary Jewellery and ACJ Wessex and a graduate member of British Contemporary Silversmiths.
