About Cano Christopher

For over 39 years, I have dedicated my life to public safety, serving in all three public safety sectors. Twenty-five of those years have been as a peace officer with the El Monte Police Department. There is not one aspect of law enforcement that I have not worked in some time during my career. As a police mid-manager, I have worked on budgetary issues, contract negotiations and employee relations to include Internal Affairs investigations. Currently, I am assigned to Patrol Services as the weekend watch commander overseeing Patrol Operations, Investigations, Communications, and Custody as the highest ranking officer on duty. Today, I worked alongside the California Commission on Police Officers Standards and Training (CA-POST) to develop and implement advanced officer training for the entire State of California's law enforcement community. I am a subject matter expert on various law enforcement topics to include Law Enforcement Response to Terrorism, Hazardous Materials Response for the First Responder, Tactical Communication, National Incident Management System (NIMS), Incident Command System (ICS), and the California State Emergency Management System (SEMS). I should note I am a licensed paramedic of 30 years and also earned a Firefighter 1A certificate from the State of California. Over my career, I have developed and implemented various programs to include a city-wide Automatic External Defibrillator program, the police department's Naxolone (Narcan) program, and the Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure program. I am also responsible for the CPR and first aid training of all civilian and sworn personnel as an American Heart Association instructor.
