About Cara Hammond

Connect and Create. When I think about the things I love about work these are the two ideas most important to me. I have always loved linking up ideas, taking a skill or concept from one place and applying it to another, taking a strategy or tool and using it in a new way. This cerebral kind of connection has always made me quick to learn new skills and fit into new workplaces, because I fundamentally believe all skills are transferable. Alongside this, emotional connections are massively important to what I do. I run courses that cover really difficult topics such as mental health and medical decision making and to do this I have to connect with people deeply and authentically. I also work really hard to make it possible for those I work with to connect to each other and build supportive sustainable relationships. Creation then is both tangible and intangible. I love the satisfaction of a completed and beautifully presented report; a functional and attractive workshop resource; a delicious meal, and I need my work to include things like this, to feel that a thing exists in the world that did not before. But creation for me does not always have to have physical form, I love the development of knowledge in both myself and others, the great pleasure of seeing how the work you have done has lit a spark of understanding in another person, or kindled a new relationship, or sense of self-efficacy. So when I have had a good day in the office, or out facilitating a course it is almost always because some new connection or creation has come about.
