In creative writing we learn that you only have a couple of paragraphs to capture the reader's attention. Please bare with me as I work to capture your attention in this first paragraph. Many years ago, as an administrator who wore many hats, I was faced with the decision to choose which hat I wanted to wear for the rest of my career. I very quickly knew that it was by and large the people! And here is the history.In 2017, I was hired to be the Office Manager / AP/AR / HR / Shipping for a very small start-up manufacturing organization in Brunswick, Maine. When I went for the job interview it was after hours and the place was quiet and I remember thinking to myself,"Gosh! I'm not sure this place will be able to a. keep me busy or b. fulfill me career-wise.but I'll take the role and see where I fit and how I can support them in their growth." Fast forward seven years and I, as well as the now mature company I was working for, were thriving! But when I look back at the midway point, the point where I knew I had to choose a clear professional path, I remember saying to myself,"Self, you need to choose between your two passions. people and shipping.(Kidding! Never shipping!). people and numbers." At that point, although I had an affinity for numbers, I knew my real passion was people! It was at that point I took my newly found focus and ran with it! I enrolled in an HR certificate program at our local University. I studied for the SHRM certification. And in between I attended as many seminars and trainings as I could. I craved all things HR; people, human nature, psychology as well as anything to do with how people affect organizations! AND how organizations affect people! I learned very quickly that employing human beings, and working for an organization is a two-way relationship. Employees owe the organizations they work for several things (honesty, hard work, integrity, etc.). But what gets lost all too often is that organizations owe a lot to the people they have working for them. And it's in this in-between space that I've found my passion. My calling! In this in-between space you'll find culture-creation, leadership development, personal and professional development at all levels, teaching and fostering EQ, change management, HR and organizational alignment, fostering inclusivity, etc. Add all of that with my whitty and quirky personality and you get an approchable and trust-worthy HR Professional who strives for success for herself. For her peers. And for any and every organization she partners with!
