About Carl Thibault

From age 3 I was fascinated by anything that could fly and this passion has continued to grow over the years. I started building and flying model planes at twelve and completed my undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering followed by a master's degree in electrical and computer engineering at The University of New Brunswick (UNB). As a graduate student, I became the first individual in the Atlantic Canadian region to receive a special flight operation certificate(SFOC) and spent the majority of my time developing unmanned aerial systems (UAS) autopilot systems for UNB and for Defence and Research and Development Canada(DRDC). Our work even appeared Discovery Channel's Daily Planet in December of 2011. After graduating I moved to St. John's Newfoundland to continue developing UAV technologies with Seamatica Aerospace who focuses on beyond visual line of sight(BVLOS) safety products for UAV operators. To continue offering UAV services I started my own company MakeTech Aerospace I have had the opportunity to work in some of the world's most challenging environments. These missions have included marine mammal detection in the Canadian Arctic, BVLOS testing in restricted airspace and ship-based deployment for iceberg tagging. Specialties: Remote operation of all vehicle types, Hardware and sensor integration, Embedded systems, solid modeling and 3D printing.
