Background

About Carla Messenger

Presently, I serve both in the private sector and in an academic setting. As a clinical psychologist at Cornerstone, I work with chidren, adolescents, adults, and families to provide comprehensive services to those with a variety of developmental, behavioral, and psychological challenges. I am also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychology at The George Washington University, where I teach courses to undergraduate and graduate students and supervise grad students in their clinical training. Future career aspirations include writing books for both academic and non-academic audiences. I hope to write textbooks on such diverse issues as psychological assessment; the healing process and psychotherapy, and counseling parents who have a child with special needs. My non-academic writing interests include writing children's books and books about parenting. I think that my experience and perspective can contribute something different to the existing literature. Another future goal is to use my clinical and research experience to inform policy, as it relates to children with special needs and their families. My previous policy experience, along with the breadth and diversity of my training have provided me with some great tools that I hope to utilize in public policy at some point in time.Specialties: Developmental assessment of young children; pediatric psychoology; public policy
