About Carla Thomas

I am a trusted and highly capable commercial lawyer with almost two decades of experience. As a senior member of Hall & Wilcox's in house Legal Excellence & Risk team, I work at the intersection of legal precision, strategic thinking, innovation and people-first practice. My career has spanned top-tier local and international law firms, in-house legal teams and a boutique property/litigation/commercial practice. I am a true generalist, having acted on significant commercial transactions, large-scale property developments, compulsory land acquisition and complex litigation. I have advisory experience in taxation, IP/IT, private wealth, trusts, general commercial issues, succession planning and estate disputes. My current role enables me to do what I do best: legal writing, plain language coaching, cracking jokes for captive audiences, mentoring, providing technical legal advice, creative thinking, problem solving, and making connections with and between our people, clients and communities. I combine experience and knowledge with a love of learning, relationship building and great writing. I'm a Wellbeing Champion and member of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee where I am excited to work on ways to unleash the power of neurodiversity in a corporate setting. I'm also an active volunteer with Next Steps Australia, a domestic violence charity that provides practical essentials to empower survivors to rebuild. I assist with sourcing and applying for grants, strategy development, communications and the development of initiatives to engage young people to reject disrespect in all relationships and to strive to be forces for good in the world.
