About Carlos Hinrichsen

Master’s Degree in Engineering from Kyoto Institute of Technology (KIT) Japan (1991) and Industrial Designer graduated PUCV, Chile (1982). PhD (c) Universidad de Girona, Spain. I am Industrial Designer trained and educated in Chile and Japan, systematic, creative, autonomous, proactive, empathic, achievement oriented with capacity for teamwork and leadership, global vision with local or regional focus on opportunities and challenges. I participated in the creation bridges and networks that have integrated individuals, companies, communities, organizations and regions around the world. For over three decades I led and/or worked with multi- and inter-disciplinary teams to enable corporations, educational institutions and other organizations to gain leadership and competitive positioning, generating impact and value-added. In academia I have 30 years of accumulated work and experience in my commitment to academic and professional development, which I had focused on the education of persons and professionals in design and innovation. In 1983 I began teaching in the School of Design UC (P. Catholic University of Santiago, School of Design). In 1992 I expanded my work and vocation to the School of Design DuocUC. In the period 2014 -2016 I was dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Business at the University Gabriela Mistral, at the same time, Director of Institute of Economy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship during 2015 -2016. In my academic life I have created and implemented projects and initiatives that integrated business, engineering, design, innovation, management and technology. In 2010 I was honored with the distinction “Commander of the Order of the Lion of Finland” in recognition of my valuable contribution to the development of design education, innovation and advocacy in Chile and Finland. Also I had an honorary member of the Chilean Association of Design. Also, I have been a keynote speaker in different conferences and seminars worldwide.
