About Carmelo Bonannella

I build decision-grade geospatial products from messy Earth observation and field data, so they can be used, trusted, and defended. I’m a forester by training and a geospatial data scientist by practice, working across remote sensing, ML, and data engineering to turn signals into monitoring, risk detection, and restoration intelligence.I operate in the “last mile” between science and operations: translating requirements, hardening pipelines with QA and reproducibility, and improving the reliability of systems that sit under real scrutiny. My work has largely been in open, public-interest environments, so I’ve built most of my stack in FOSS and open standards (and I’m comfortable adapting quickly when a proprietary tool is required).I’ve also spent years delivering in multi-partner, EU-funded settings, where success depends on more than good models: clear ownership, defensible evidence, and pragmatic execution across institutions. Always happy to connect with teams building robust geospatial platforms, operational monitoring, and accountability-grade environmental intelligence.
