About Carmen Leida

Agro-forestry specialist • Scientist • Plant Breeder I deal with the granting of agri-environmental loans, i.e. European contributions that aim to increase organic farming, integrated production, areas of naturalistic-landscape interest and reduce the use of pesticides. I love applied research, agro-biotech and plant breeding. I am interested in collaboration in applied research projects concerning plant breeding, diversity analysis and gene functions. Recently I am interested in Circular Economy and microalgae cultivation. I have always been a curious scientist and will never stop being so. With more than ten years as a researcher in Spain and Italy in applied plant genetics, I have implemented my skills and obtained important results in publications, project management and breeding programs. During my career I have coordinated several research projects on breeding and gene functions collaborating closely with universities, companies and germplasm collections. I have worked with various plant species: apple, pear, strawberry, peach, vine and melon, dealing with various topics such as bud latency, fruit ripening, gametophytic incompatibility and the most important traits for increasing the value of a variety. In this context, I supervised the entire project: from its planning and experimental design to the collection and statistical analysis of data. At the same time, I have developed a growing interest in massive sequencing technologies (NGS), bioinformatics applying them to the analysis of genetic diversity and the development of molecular markers. Meanwhile, I am interested in collaborating in applied research projects on biodiversity, breeding and gene functions through the drafting of projects, experimental design, NGS or phenotypic data analysis.
