About Carmen Phillips

I've been writing about science, medicine, and health care in one form or another for more than 25 years. I've reported on a broad array of topics, including transfusion medicine and infectious disease, clinical cardiology, health policy, and, for the last 19 years, cancer. That experience is supported by a master's in medical/science writing from Johns Hopkins and a robust curiosity about medicine and research that can improve people's lives.I'm highly skilled at - and thrive on - translating complex material into well-crafted and understandable content that meets the information needs of multiple audiences. I enjoy working as part of a team but also have plenty of experience working largely on my own to develop ideas and deliver final products.I currently manage the National Cancer Institute's research news blog, Cancer Currents, overseeing its day-to-day activities. That includes everything from identifying and selecting studies for coverage, being the primary editor for nearly all stories we publish, and managing an intensive review and production process. I also contributing stories to Cancer Currents and develop content for NCI's website, including in-depth reports on timely topics like immunotherapy and cancer prevention.
