Background
About Carol Gee
Carol Gee RMN Bsc Hons Psychosocial Interventions for Psychosis Msc Advanced Clinical Practice. Advanced Nurse Practitioner Over the past thirty years I have held a number of challenging clinical roles within Mental Health working extensively within adult services both inpatient and community settings. I have experienced working in both acute inpatients and a therapeutic community for psychosis, and 16 years as a care coordinator and CPN in the community including crisis resolution and home treatment. I have a special interest in Psychosis and working with families As a CPN I managed a case load of complex clients with severe and enduring mental health needs in a challenging and demanding geographical area. This role involved quickly and effectively engaging service users and their families in a collaborative approach to assessment of their needs and risks. Formulating evidence based effective and person centered care and treatment plans to reduce risk and promote recovery. I have previous role across all specialties within mental health nursing as a Clinical Practice Educator Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust. This role involved enhancing the learning environment for Student Nurses and Allied Health Professionals through working directly with clinical teams to develop evidence based practice and improved service users and carer’s experience. Prio to and during the covid pandemic I worked as a modern matron within the acute adult inpatient service providing clinical leadership to two wards and a health based place of safety. I led a service improvement project looking at improving sleep using digital technology, this was in partnership with Oxehealth and made a significant impact in improving sleep, privacy and dignity within an inpatient area but also in addressing the ritualistic practice of supportive nursing observations at night. The project which gained national recognition and was awarded the NHS parliamentary award for the south region and awards for patient safety from the HSJ. Leaving the NHS in 2022 was perhaps the most difficult decision in my 35 year as a mental health nurse, however the opportunity to be part of developing and nurturing the future workforce was a fantastic opportunity. I previously worked as a lecturer seconded from OHFT for the previous 15 years and appreciated their philosophy of care towards both students and staff and the high standards they aspire to create a balance between the art and science of nursing.
