The challenges of educating youth in a hybrid learning environment of print and digital media indicate the need for bold new teaching approaches. Creative solutions lie at the intersection of information, technology, and literacy where educators design engaging learning experiences embedded in information-based inquiry learning. Such a pedagogy embeds a mature concept of help and research-based interventions in personalized learning scenarios. The classroom extends beyond its four walls through blended learning and collaboration with school library, technology, and literacy programs. The textbook is replaced or enriched by multi-media information that serves as the raw material for knowledge construction. Reflective teaching practices provide learners with continuous and ongoing opportunities for reflection, self- and peer-evaluation, and revision prior to summative, graded evaluations. A disciplinary approach adds rigor as learners take on real world issues that require critical reading and critical thinking. Rich learning outcomes in print and digital formats represent learners' new knowledge and their ability to use that knowledge to express their understanding and their ability to apply, analyze evaluate, and create. In order to deliver this rigorous, self-directed, and personalized education educators are trained in the use of information and technology environments that engage learners. An action research model incorporates teaching that is authentic, information-based, and evidence-driven. Teachers learn the art of reflection and remediation as their students learn to be their own best critics who are information literate, technology literate, and trans-literate across diverse media platforms.
