About Carol Hurst

Dr. Carol Grace Hurst is Associate Professor & Social Work Program Director, Department of Applied Social Sciences, Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, VA. She holds PhD and MSW degrees in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Virginia. Dr. Hurst’s years in clinical practice focused on children, youth, and families from a predominantly family systems’ perspective. She believes in the power of attachment, love, and deep spirituality to anchor resilience as families together face life challenges. Dr. Hurst’s research and writing collaborations have focused on clinical supervision, boundaries management, and parenting concerns like quality child care and infant feeding. Dr. Hurst holds expertise in early childhood and parenting, as well as clinical supervision. She has a special interest in preparing clinicians for respectful practice to enhance parenting performance. Previously, Dr. Hurst taught theory, practice, and field courses as an adjunct instructor of Social Work with Virginia Commonwealth University School of Social Work. Dr. Hurst also served as a national service line leader for clinical supervision within the Corporate University of Providence Service Corporation, the training division of the company, where she served as Director of Continuing Education from 2010-2014.
