About Carolina Torres

I have a BS in Biological Sciences from North Carolina State University, where I gained a solid foundation in human biology, biochemistry, and genetics. I am currently a QC Laboratory Technician at Borealis, a leading provider of innovative solutions in the fields of polyolefins, base chemicals, and fertilizers. In this role, I apply my technical skills and knowledge to set up and maintain customer profiles, product specifications, and import/export requirements remotely for a joint venture in Houston, TX. I also operate and maintain analytical and inspection lab equipment, and communicate with cross-functional teams to ensure quality and compliance.Before joining Borealis, I worked as a Program Assistant for Community Care of North Carolina, a non-profit organization that provides care management and coordination services for low-income and underserved populations. I was involved in two projects related to the Covid-19 pandemic: one for data entry and auditing of Covid-19 labs, and another for onboarding and training new staff members, including contact tracers, case investigators, and clinical and non-clinical support staff. I supervised a team of 60 members, developed and updated spreadsheets and databases, gathered and analyzed data, and conducted orientation and remedial trainings. I used various IT systems, such as SAP, LIMS, sharepoint, Microsoft Office, and other equipment software. I also supported human resources processes by administering tests, scheduling appointments, maintaining records and information, and overseeing attendance and performance. Through these projects, I demonstrated my leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills, as well as my commitment to public health and social justice. I am passionate about using data and technology to improve health outcomes and quality of life for people and communities. I believe I can bring diverse perspectives and experiences to the team, and contribute to the mission and vision of the organization.
