About Caroline King

I am a Lead Evaluation Scientist with the Nova Scotia Health Implementation Science Team, where I work with a group of qualitative and quantitative researchers. Our team partners with various stakeholders across Nova Scotia Health to evaluate the impact of proposed changes in healthcare practices/ systems. We conduct evaluations that range from multi-site clinical trials and province-wide health system changes to smaller quality improvement projects. Our work involves designing and implementing comprehensive evaluation plans; this includes deciding on theoretical frameworks, creating data collection tools, supervising data collection and storage, making and carrying out analysis plans, and drafting final evaluation reports. Ultimately, our goal is to support our partners in enhancing healthcare delivery and policy in Nova Scotia, ensuring that the changes we evaluate lead to meaningful improvements in patient care. Prior to working with the Implementation Science Team, I worked as a Senior Biostatistical consultant for two years with Nova Scotia health. In general, I’m a methodologist at heart and am interested in almost any research area that involves humans. I love working with experts from other fields, patients and other stakeholders to design meaningful and robust evaluations. From an analytical standpoint, my expertise is in quasi-experimental designs and predictive modelling (including some machine learning). I typically work with real-world data such as health administrative data.
