About Caroline Strolic
Museum professional specializing in American art with a concentration in nineteenth century American paintings. My research has explored identity, alienation, and gender roles in the mid to late nineteenth century in American paintings. My undergraduate Honors thesis,"Benjamin West's Hybrid Identity: The Construction and Reconstruction of an Anglo-American Artist," received Highest Honors for its success in blending established scholarship with my own theories. My Master's Scholarly Paper,"Absent Fathers and Absent Men: Eastman Johnson's Writing to Father (1863) and the Effects of the Civil War on the Northern Family," used Johnson's Civil War period painting to analyze the effects of the Civil War on children, women, and lower- and middle-class families as reflected in visual culture. I am particularly interested in both curatorial and collections work. I hope to bring my experience to a museum or historical society as well as develop my skills as a museum professional.
