About Carrie Cablay

My philosophy on education is that everyone is a learner! I have a heart for kids, and am also enthusiastic about learning methods that help each individual student tap into their own gifts which make them successful in the classroom, and in their daily lives outside the classroom. Every one of my students has something special to share with those they come into contact with. I like to let my students play the teacher role whenever possible. In these circumstances my students are able to share about what they have accomplished, learned, and about their culture, all while creating an atmosphere where they feel engaged, safe, and valuable in our classroom learning environment. I set up a democratic process where classroom decisions to be made are discussed and voted upon. I work to create lessons that address learning styles for each of my students and to differentiate for my students’ needs while maintaining a high standard for learning. My favorite methods for assessing how students are progressing in their learning are through student feedback given on reflection exercises, as well as weekly individual mini-conferences. I highly value the home-to-classroom connection. I provide many avenues for families to communicate with me as needed and for families to stay in touch with what their students are learning in the classroom. One way I have done this is by creating a classroom web page which students and their families may access to find out about what we have covered in class, as well as upcoming important information.
