About Carrie Leaf

Carrie launched her private practice, now DBA Carrie Leaf Therapy, LLC, in July of 2015. She brings more than 10 years experience in the mental health field and has worked in a variety of settings including hospitals, community mental health, residential and private practice. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Northern Iowa with a major in psychology and a minor in sociology. Following her undergraduate work, Carrie completed her graduate work at Iona College in New Rochelle, NY earning her Master of Science in marriage and family therapy. She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with the Iowa Board of Behavioral Science. During her internships in New York City while attending graduate school, she had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of client populations with varying age, ethnicity, culture and presenting concerns. Carrie has experience with individuals, groups, and couples of all ages. She takes an eclectic therapy approach with roots in Rogerian Client-Centered Therapy and Systems Theory, often pulling from cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness-based skill sets. She has completed training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. Carrie also has experience in the substance abuse field. In her therapeutic approach, Carrie believes that while each individual’s motivation for therapy is unique, the foundation of all successful psychotherapy/treatment is a genuine, collaborative relationship between the client and therapist. As Carrie continues down her journey both personally and professionally, she has shifted to part-time Mindset Coaching and has launched Carrie Leaf Coaching. Here you can work with Carrie in a variety of areas but in particular working on the mind/body connection to get the best mindset and version of you possible. Carrie offers in-person and virtual sessions.
