About Carrie Soom

I connect dots. I shine when I’m a central point for looking across an organization and seeing how all the pieces fit together. I’m a media operations professional with more than a decade of experience spanning production, post production, closed captioning, and metadata. I have a knack for seeing the big picture, creative problem solving skills, and a zeal for organization. Building and leading the closed captioning department at Fuse gave me the opportunity to flex my leadership skills while also building a passion for captioning and media accessibility. The interdepartmental workflows I developed kept our captioning costs under budget and significantly reduced our reliance on out-of-house captioning while also improving the quality of our captions. I approach my work with a project management mentality, whether I’m looking at a project with defined start and end points, or just my day-to-day tasks. I learned from running a music website early in my career that I’m happiest working for a company rather than for myself, but I bring an entrepreneurial spirit and a sense of ownership to my work wherever I do it. My past supervisors have praised me for my innovation, desire to learn, my ability to understand interdependencies and agility with changing priorities. My tendencies toward organization also spill over into my home life, whether in the form of prioritized to-do lists in my bullet journal, meticulously notated Google maps for planning travel, or color-coded spreadsheets tracking the status of the 13 Marvel Avengers-themed beers I brewed simultaneously a few years ago. Outside of work, I’m driven by the urge to create, whether I’m sewing my own skirts and dresses, baking my own macarons, brewing my own beer or creating custom hand-made merchandise for nationally touring bands when I was in college.
