About Carson Nelson

Ever since I was a child, it has been my driving force to help others feel like they can achieve greatness. My focus has always been revolving around taking care of and assisting those in need. I was born to educate others, and I wake up each day feeling so thankful that I get the opportunity to share my love of language arts with the children of my local community. I am a college graduate from West Virginia University with a Bachelor's degree in English and a minor in history. I am very skilled in the fields of reading, writing, and literature. I have an area of emphasis in the literature aspect of the English/Language Arts field. American literature and American history are my specified literary fields. I have also obtained a Masters of Arts in Teaching, English Education (Secondary) from Western Governors University. I have great experience in the education field - having filled long-term vacancy positions and professional positions throughout the state of West Virginia. I am also a Spanish speaker, which makes me more than capable to assist in English Language Learner courses. I enrolled myself in any Spanish course that I could find. I ended up making a very close friend who lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I went to visit for a given amount of time in 2022. While there, I greatly improved upon my Spanish skills. As a result, I was lucky enough to fill a Spanish position at Parkersburg High School in 2023. I am able to apply these skills each day as an educator due to the increase of Spanish-speaking students who receive English Language Learner services in our schools. I am working full-time as an English 9 and 10 teacher at Parkersburg High School located in Parkersburg, West Virginia. I also currently mediate the Diversity Student Union club at Parkersburg High School, which strives to normalize inclusion and diversity of all cultures, ethnic groups, and religions. While in this English position, I am able to teach my students and discuss with them the topics that I feel the most passionate about: literature, history, writing skills, and communication through writing. I not only get to do this, but I also get to fulfill my driving force of assisting young adults in becoming the best versions of themselves that they can possibly be.
