Background Summary – Carter Cornick: Crisis and strategic communications, government, politics, public affairs, and policy consulting are my professional strengths. Overall, I have: • 25+ years of professional experience, including over 6 years as a private sector consultant in crisis and strategic communications, government and public relations and policy with PwC (others); over 4 years as an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown U; nearly 9 years in the House of Representatives and 8+ years in the U.S. Senate (with Sen. John Warner and Sen. Olympia Snowe) working closely with elected officials, and 6 years at both the Departments of Housing and Urban Development and Interior. • The roles I have held include, Chief of Staff (US Sen. J Warner), General Deputy Asst. Secretary (led Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs at HUD), Director (PwC), Senior Advisor, Senior VP, Director of Communications, Legislative Director, among others. I have led policy and strategy initiatives, communications efforts, public affairs activities and helped build and partner with coalitions. • At HUD, I was the Department’s top government relations liaison to Capitol Hill on all housing and community and economic development issues and worked closest with authorizing and appropriating committees. I also played a lead liaison role for both Secretary Martinez and Jackson with the Domestic Policy Council (at the White House) and OMB. I also testified for the Department in March of 2007 on the subject of GSE reform before Chairman Barney Frank’s Financial Services Committee with Treasury and OFHEO. • I spent some 15 years in media/ public affairs/ communications (including crisis)/ speechwriting for Members of Congress. For Senator Warner, I served as CoS, Full Committee Spokesman and Director of Communications for the Senate Armed Services Committee and, prior to his Chairmanship of the Armed Services Committee, as Spokesman/ Dir. of Comm. for the Senate Rules Committee.
