About Casey D. Allen

A multiple, international award winning educator and scholar, Dr. Allen has wide-ranging interests and places a high value on field-based learning. He also conducts fieldwork around the world and consults/advises on various topics that intersect with his expertise in Geography-at-large, geomorphology ("The Science of Scenery"), stone/rock decay science (usually as applied to heritage conservation & management), biocrusts, and humanistic geography. Other specialties include: cultural/bio/urban geomorphology, landscape change and landscape archaeology, field studies & techniques, and geographic education. He also has experience in curriculum and program development & assessment. Regionally speaking, he has first-hand experience throughout the US Southwest & US-Mexico Borderlands, the Lesser Antilles (Caribbean), Middle East, South America, Japan, and most of Europe. On the research side specifically, his books have been well-received, and continue to serve as an authority on their respective content. These include,"Urban Geomorphology: Landforms and Processes in Cities"(2018, co-edited with Mary J. Thornbush and published by Elsevier),"Landscapes and Landforms of the Lesser Antilles"(2017, part of Springer's "World Geomorphological Landscapes" series), an invited volume entitled "The Andes: Geography, Diversity, and Sociocultural Impacts"(2017, by Nova Science), and 2014's "Geomorphological Fieldwork"(with Mary Thornbush and Faith Fitzpatrick, number 18 in Elsevier's "Developments in Earth Surface Processes" series). While often focused around landscape change and rock art/heritage resources more broadly, he uses techniques such as remote sensing & (historic) repeat photography/photogeomorphology, various scientific indices/methods, and critical theory approaches, among others, to assess the human-environment interface and/or programmatic/educational needs and outcomes. Dr. Allen also serves as Associate Director of the Stone Heritage Research Alliance Co-Investigator for the Norman Sicily Project and is a a Certified Practitioner for the MBTI and Strong Interest Inventory.
