About Casey Gupta

Growing up as an expat in Kyiv, Ukraine, has shaped my desire to pursue a degree in international development—to address societal problems at their root. When the full-scale war broke out in Ukraine during my freshman year of college, my focus became centered on pursuing post-war development. To determine whether conflict studies was the right next step after graduation, I spent last spring living in Zagreb, Croatia, studying at the European Center for the Study of War and Peace. This interdisciplinary program not only confirmed my interest in the field but also strengthened my desire to work in conflict development. The experience allowed me to explore what sustainable peace entails and the role that religion and ethnicity play in mobilizing conflict. I am completing my undergraduate degree in sociology, which has built a solid foundation for my understanding of global conflict and equipped me with necessary skills. I am currently working on my senior thesis, in which I am conducting original research on USAID’s employee motivation. I believe project will showcase what I have learned in sociology, and apply it to topics of international development.
