About Casey Lensing

My name is Casey Lensing, and I am a current Bethel University student, estimated to receive my BA in Mathematics specializing in Education by May 2021. I am currently student teaching at Champlin Park High School and anticipate receiving my Minnesota Mathematics 5-12 license by May 2021. I have expressed my desire to become a teacher as far back as late elementary school, as I found great delight in providing extra help to my friends who struggled in a variety of content areas. It wasn't until 8th grade that I developed a great appreciation for math, thanks to an exceptionally wonderful teacher who provided me with individualized support, helpful learning strategies, and introduced me to the fascinating qualities within mathematics studies. My teaching philosophy centers around squashing the common misconception that mathematics is only accomplishable for those who are born with the “math gene”. This comes from my initial belief at a young age that I just was not born with a "math brain". Just as I was fortunate enough to have a teacher who showed me that anyone can understand math with the right resources and study strategies, I strive to do the same for my students. My job is to encourage a safe, inclusive learning environment while providing individualized support in the effort to appeal to a wide variety of learning styles. As Albert Einstein said, “Any fool can know”. By centering my class activities around student-led observation and inquiry, I encourage a deeper level of understanding than the average teacher-led lectures.
