About Casey Lyons

Through my experience as a first generation college student and sign language interpreter and advocate for communication access for over 10 years, I discovered a desire to pursue educational counseling for students with disabilities. As a recent graduate from Western Oregon University with a Master's of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling Deafness, I had the opportunity to learn about counseling techniques, career development theories, and aspects of disability that impact access to opportunities. I am also a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC). I have had the opportunity to work as a practicum student and counseling intern with the California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) focusing on student services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in the Inland Empire. At DOR I counseled hearing and Deaf students transitioning from high school to college. I also worked with adults to achieve their career goals. I had the opportunity to conduct client orientation and intakes, provide career and education counseling, create employment plans, coordinate referrals, conduct Labor Market Surveys, and provide career assessments for both Potentially Eligible and Vocational Rehabilitation clients. I also assisted students with college schedule planning, class registration, and financial aid. In addition, I supported clients with career preparation and planning through mock interviews, resume writing, and job search assistance.
