About Cassandra Star

Dr Cassandra Star is Director of the Climate and Sustainability Policy Research (CASPR) group. Cassandra’s research is concentrated on the interface between politics and the policy process and the subsequent impact of these dynamics on policy formation. In particular, the ways in which stakeholders shape and manipulate the climate policy agenda is the current focus of her work. Dr Star’s research has attracted $1m in funding, including Category 1 funding. She has in excess of 60 books, journal articles, book chapters and other papers across her career with prestigious publishers including MIT Press, Climate and Development and Environmental Politics. She has been awarded visiting appointments and esteemed fellowships, including by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences to conduct fieldwork on climate politics in Beijing. Dr Star is highly sought after to provide policy advice and professional development services to state and federal government agencies. Clients have included the South Australian Department of State Development, ReturnToWorkSA and (the now defunct) HealthWorkforce Australia. She has chaired government boards, including for the Department of Education and Child Development (South Australia). She was the academic coordinator of the Public Sector Management Program for the Australian Public Service Commission from 2013-2015 and managed the team that delivered this $1.6m dollar project from Flinders University. She is also a member of the Institute of Public Administration, South Australian branch’s Strategic Advisory Committee. Cassandra provides significant leadership within political science nationally and internationally, including convening the Environmental Politics and Policy Standing Committee for the Australian Political Studies Association.
