About Cassidy Coker

I am passionate about teaching the public about the conservation of not only native species we can see in our own backyards, but exotic species around the world. I have been working with Joan Embery (San Diego Zoo Ambassador) training using operant conditioning, taking care of her exotic animals, and performing conservation shows with her since 2011. I want to continue doing this while also performing research to learn more about ecosystems as a whole. In 2018, I obtained my Master S.C.U.B.A. Diver and AAUS Scientific S.C.U.B.A. Diving certification in order to participate in a Marine Research Field Quarter abroad in Corsica, France. There, my group and I researched and wrote a scientific paper about urchin populations, their movements throughout the area, as well as their feeding patterns/ preferences. I would like to continue down this path of research (marine or terrestrial) and possibly combine this with public education. Currently I work at Auburn University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital in the Small Animal Anesthesia Department. I teach veterinary students how to assess patients, create a safe anesthetic protocol, perform anesthesia, and recover pets following an anesthetic event.
