About Cate Carrigan

A committed and experienced communications specialist, I have enjoyed a varied career across print and broadcast journalism. Open to new ideas and challenges, I've adapted to many work environments over three decades of journalism and always relished the opportunities that have come my way. From a country newspaper, to federal politics; from Australian Associated Press, to court reporting in London, and through various roles at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, including reporting from a busy city newsroom, producing in metropolitan and national radio, and as ABC South East Regional Manager and presenter in Bega, NSW. Be it in a city newsroom, a regional office or metropolitan local and national radio, I have told the stories of everyday Australians - often ordinary people confronting out of the ordinary events. I have dipped into various forms of freelance writing - from Australia's trade organisation - Austrade - to health and industry publications. Above all, my career has been about connecting the community through the events, achievements and challenges they face together. To me that's what journalism is all about; telling the stories of Australia and the local, national or international events that impact on us all; be they personal, political or technological and scientific change. I have a Bachelor of Arts (Communications) from Charles Sturt University, Bathurst (then Mitchell College of Advanced Education) and as associate diploma in social administration from Western Sydney University.
