About Cath Williams

I have worked as an assessor of Health and social care on a full time basis since 2005. Over 15 years working in health and social care sector with a variety of client groups, starting as a care/support worker, progressing to senior care then into management roles. As part of these roles I learned about the underpinning such as person centred care and Health and Safety enabling me to put this into practice and promote the experience of supported individuals. In my management role I furthered my understanding of CQC, registration, Supporting people, people management and as part of this set up a service user tenants group and was part of a north west women in mental health group. I also set up medication training for staff including an online/workbook course from an external body and training from the pharmacy. I have been the responsible person for ordering and checking in of a considerable amount of medication, and administering this including thorough documentation. I initially completed my level 2 HSC although no longer have the certificate. I went on to undertake a level 3 however this was in Community Mental Health as this was specific to my employment. As mental health is part of both mental health and social care, the mandatory units underpinned this qualification and most of the content relates to the level 3 HSC qualification. I have assessed both the level 2 and level 3 Care qualifications and also taught the level 2 to pre employment/retraining groups following achievement of my DTLLS award. During this time continually updating me own knowledge through reading and research and supporting learners I am well qualified to teach level 2 and level 3 qualifications. In relation to short courses which I have also undertaken, I have covered a range of topics including mental health, autism and e-o-l as examples. I have also been part of teams for pre employment supporting individuals for work. My own life skills have supported my knowledge and skills base. My 2 sons, had mental ill health throughout childhood and as adults were both diagnosed with adhd. This included managing addiction, homelessness, anxiety, depression and attempted suicides so I have worked in partnership with others as part of this. I have had several family bereavements, elderly parent hospitalised and going into residential care etc. My eldest grandson has autism and my next to eldest still sadly awaiting correct diagnosis of a condition which includes traits of adhd, disruptive and aggressive behaviour. I feel this further supports my occupational competency.
