About Catharine Wallace

I love art history My research interests include Egypt in sixteenth-century Roman art and space, early modern antiquarianism, and issues of style. I’ve presented my work at the Sixteenth Century Society of America Conference, the Renaissance Society of America Conference, and Early Modern Rome Conference, and currently serve on the Italian Art Society's Awards Committee. I’ve taught a wide variety of art history courses for numerous institutions, including Tyler School of Art, Temple University, the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and the Chester County Art Association. Most fortunately, I’ve been an educator at West Chester University of Pennsylvania since 2008. From fulfilling gen eds in giant lecture halls to diving deep in writing intensives, I teach everything from caves to contemporary. We practice critical thinking, visual literacy, slow looking, and communication through lecture, writing, low-stakes sketching, and collaborative work. In the last couple of years I’ve also taught First Year Experience, a semester-long course preparing incoming students for college (and beyond), served as faculty advisor for the Art History Social student organization, and published an essay on the Last Supper by Florentine painter Suor Plautilla Nelli on the open education resource Smarthistory.org.
