About Catherine Bernhart

I am a compassionate, empathetic and caring Junior Nursing Student at Fairfield University. I hope to work as a Perioperative Nurse when I graduate. A perioperative nurse is one who works closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurse practitioners, and surgical technicians in the operating room to provide the best care possible to a patient undergoing surgery. Perioperative nurses not only participate in surgeries, but also care for the patients in both the pre-operative and post-operative settings. This specialty in nursing involves collaboration between multiple levels of the healthcare team to ensure patient care and safety are fulfilled. As a new graduate nurse I hope to become part of the perioperative team to care for the patients through the three stages of surgery, to work closely with various members of the healthcare team and to advocate for my patient.
