About Catherine Coakley

I am a partner at BTM Lawyers LLP where I maintain a busy litigation and dispute resolution practice focusing on employment, personal injury, and construction law. I have broad experience acting for both employees and employers in non-unionized workplaces. My practice involves negotiating employment contracts and severance packages, litigating wrongful dismissal and human rights claims, and advising on bullying and harassment, privacy, and workplace safety issues. I have a particular passion for combating discrimination, bullying, and harassment in the workplace and take pride in assisting employers navigating these complex issues by advising on their accommodation obligations and assisting in workplace investigations when complaints arise. I also pride myself in being a fierce advocate for employees that have suffered discrimination and harassment in the workplace and have experience representing them before the Human Rights Tribunal and in court. My personal injury practice is limited to representing individuals who have been injured in accidents including motor vehicle accidents and slip and fall accidents. I work closely with family doctors, specialists, and allied health professionals to ensure my clients receive appropriate treatment and are fully compensated for their injuries. I also act as legal counsel in all aspects of the construction industry, from advising on contract formation and drafting to litigating builders liens and disputes arising from non-payment, delay, defective work, and contract termination. I represent a wide range of industry players including owners, design professionals, contractors, subcontractors and material suppliers. Before joining BTM Lawyers LLP and pursuing a career in law, I studied Political Science and Economics at the University of Victoria and worked in the building supplies industry.
